Moles

My 13 year old son has developed a white spot on his back that is approx. 1 cm.around. It has a very small light brown freckle type mole in the center. He had a similar spot removed last year and was told by the surgeon that is was a benign mole that never surfaced. Since this is the second one to appear, I am not sure if we need to have it removed or just watch it. He is out in the sun (Georgia) alot in the summer and develops alot of small regular size moles on his back and chest. He does wear sunscreen. Please give me your opinion on what this is and what we should do about it.

This is called a halo nevus. It is fairly common in children. In itself, it is not worrisome, if the mole in the center appears normal. If the central mole is unusual, then I recommend getting it examined.
