Prevention

Treating warts while they are still small may help prevent them from spreading. In some cases, imiquimod cream (Aldara®), when applied to the treated areas, can help prevent recurrences by stimulating local immunity to human papillomavirus (HPV). However, more data is needed to prove this.

The most effective way to prevent ano-genital warts (condyloma acuminata) is to practice safer sex, which may include using a latex condom during sex and avoiding sexual contact with affected people.
